Delta Airlines: Luggage regulations

Northwest Airlines: Luggage regulations

Southwest Airlines: Luggage regulations

United Airlines: Luggage regulations

US Airways: Luggage regulations

While most airlines follow the same basic rules some have slight variations especially when it comes to excess baggage. For specific regulations on most the major US airlines follow the links above.

Carry–on Luggage Regulations / Rules

Normally, airlines allow one piece of carry-on luggage plus one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, or laptop. The Carry-on luggage or bag should no exceed a total of 45". This measurement is taken by adding the length, width, and height together. (Length + Width + Height) The weight should be such that you can easily handle it to place it in the overhead compartments. Also, check by law the prohibited items listed by the TSA that you cannot take.

Checked Luggage Regulations / Rules

Most airlines usually allow two checked pieces of luggage or bags. Using the same formula as above, your luggage should not exceed 60" and shouldn't weight over 60 lbs.

When you exceed the specific regulations for an airline they will charge an excess baggage fee. If you think you'll be close check out the airline you will be flying on for more details.

If you have excess baggage consider shipping it ahead. The "Carry-less Travel Solution" will pick your luggage, baggage, bags, sports bags, golf club bags, or packages up at your door and it will be waiting for you when you arrive at your destination. You can easily get immediate pricing online and fill out a form on where to pick up and deliver. The pricing is usually comparable to the airline penalties plus you won't have to carry all the bags through the airport. Think about shipping your golf clubs or other sports equipment ahead. carry on luggageNow that you have figured out the standards of how many pieces and what size luggage you can take on your vacation, check it's condition from top to bottom. There is nothing worse than arriving at your vacation destination to find out you can't keep your suitcase closed.

Maybe it's time for some new luggage. Today's luggage sets and suitcases are convenient. The smaller bags fits into the larger bags. A nice set of luggage will take up less room to store than several misc. pieces.

TIP: For the vacationers who like to shop or usually buy several souvenirs, don't forget, you have to bring everything home in the luggage or bags that you brought. If your planning on making several purchases at your vacation destination, pack everything in one of the smaller suitcases and then put it inside one of the larger suitcases. Now you have plenty of room to bring back all those goodies you've purchased.
