Rangiroa, referred to as "The Island of the Long Sky" is the largest atoll in the Southern Hemisphere, the second largest atoll in the world, and heralded as one of the world’s greatest dive destinations. It an impressive sight viewed from the air with its string of 240 coral islets (motu) encircling a 400 square mile turquoise and jade-green lagoon.

The main villages of Avatoru and Tiputa offer the visitor a look at the modest Tahitian lifestyle of this remote atoll. Bike along the few roads in existence and visit coral churches, craft centers, local restaurants and tiny shops. For the water enthusiast, the lagoon provides spectacular underwater explorations for divers and snorkelers.
