Probably one of Polynesia’s best-kept secrets…Huahine is a
"Garden of Eden" with lush forests, an untamed landscape and
quaint villages. It is relatively unchanged by the modern world
and is home to the largest concentration of pre-European marae
(ancient Polynesian stone temples). The island's fertile soil
provides bountiful harvests of a variety of melons as well as
other fruits and vegetables. It is located approximately 105 miles
northwest of the island of Tahiti.

|
A deep, crystal-clear lagoon surrounds the two islands of
Huahine Nui (Big) and Huahine Iti (Small) separated only by a
narrow channel. One legend says the two islands were created when
the god, Hiro, cut the island in half with his canoe. |
|
A mystical tour around the
island takes about three and a half hours. Rich in archaeological
relics such as the dwellings and maraes (traditional temples built
for sacrifices to the gods), the island still vibrates from the
mysterious past. A visit to the temple of Orohaehae or of the
sacred lake of the ancient wizard kings is a wonderful occasion
for you to experience the untouched and enchanting authenticity of
Huahine.
