The largest of the
Leeward Islands, Raiatea shares the southern part of her lagoon
with Tahaa. As well as the famous surf spots such as Faaroa or
Miri Miri, one can discover wonderful white sand beaches and
underwater gardens on the motus close to the coral reefs
surrounding the islands.

|
The "Sacred Island", Raiatea, meaning "faraway heaven" and "sky
with soft light," was first named Havai’i after the homeland of
the ancient Polynesians. It was considered to be the center of
religion and culture in the South Pacific 1000 years ago. The
interior landscape includes Mt. Temehani, the only place on earth
where the rare Tiare Apetahi flower grows. The island is located
approximately 136 miles northwest of the island of Tahiti.

|
The Vanilla Island, Taha’a, where numerous vanilla farms thrive
and the rich scent of the spice lingers in the air, is so
appropriately named. Located just about 2 miles north of Raiatea,
visiting the island will offer a glimpse of the traditional and
tranquil life of the Tahitians. The island will charm the visitor
with its simple beauty and white sand beaches are found on the
string of motu (islets) surrounding the island.
